Twitter – It’s More than You Might Think
Yesterday, as I was visiting with my former neighbor, Carol, I mentioned a really cute video I had seen on the Internet. When I told her someone had referred to this video on Twitter™, she immediately interrupted with, “Oh, I saw that post too…and I also saw that video. It was so cute.”
Needless to say, I was utterly shocked at her reply. First of all, Carol is 70 years old; and she’s a Tweeter at Twitter™! I never would have imagined people her age being a part of such a network; because many don’t own a computer; or they only read email from family members.
Carol told me she had been a “Tweeter” for only a little while. She had been enjoying the humor along with some information; but then she’s also met and befriended people with the same interests as she had, and they tweet and instant message each other.
Carol also informed me of about 4 other members of her local quilting bee who were “Tweeters” also. As she was mentioning all the different offers, ideas, adages that have helped her as well as her friends, I realized Twitter ™ was so much more than just a communication tool.
My friend also mentioned that she even found free “stuff” on the Internet per someone’s recommendation. Since she and her friends are all retired with limited incomes, those types of recommendations are a welcomed sight.
I could almost feel her emotion as she referred to the positive thoughts members were posting. Carol has always been positive-minded; but since she lost her husband about 3 years ago; she definitely has had lonely moments. I’m glad she’s had the opportunity of reading some inspirational thoughts.
Many members use “Twitter™” for the sole purpose of networking for their businesses. These same networkers may not realize they’re touching lives of a different crowd also. Even if a follower doesn’t join their business opportunity or even buy their product; the posting of good will, humor and enlightenment may have given another human being a touch of something special…a true community involvement.
So, Tweet on, Twitter-lings!

I’m a stay-at-home-mom and twitter offers some social interaction….which I am accustomed to in a professional setting that I had during my entire career.
I enjoy seeing different viewpoints, reading news, humor, and similarities I share with others.
Thanks for the great read.

This is a great story. I am 50, live alone and am just past the highly coveted 18-49 yr old target market. I like many things younger people like including tech stuff, and I’ve learned a lot from following people on Twitter. It is a wonderful source of news, information, humor and most important: community.
